Energized Living with Thyroid Disease

Posted: November 3, 2017

Fatigue. Weight gain. Forgetfulness. Thinning hair and dry skin. If you are feeling like age is creeping up on you faster than ever, maybe it’s your thyroid. Women are 5 to 8 times more likely to be affected by Thyroid disease than men. It is also estimated that 60% of people with thyroid disease, don’t know they have it. I am an advocate of energized living with thyroid disease.

My mother was diagnosed over 40 years ago. She suffered from chronic fatigue, digestive disorders and food intolerances and many symptoms for years. Her medical doctor told her “all she could do was take Synthroid”, When I was diagnosed many years later, I had tons of questions about why, how and what to do with my body…and this diagnosis.

When the doctor had no answers. I found another healthcare practitioner. I then took it upon myself to find out everything I could about how to feel, move and look good, despite this ‘lifelong” diagnosis.

Now, at 58…I feel better than I did years ago.

My chronic pain is gone. My energy levels are up, and my weight is stable. I live an energized and happy life!

You see…I actually started gaining weight, dieting and trying to exercise as the weight piled on. I was only in my 30’s then and my doctor wouldn’t even test me for the right thyroid tests. He said “you are in the normal limits”, even though I had many symptoms.

I was frustrated. I was too young to even be feeling what I was feeling.

It’s amazing what this little gland at the base of your neck is responsible for. The thyroid is part of a very intricate system…the endocrine system. This slew of hormones regulates everything from heart rate to body temperature. Metabolic rate and digestive system. It’s no wonder there is so much confusion when it comes to thyroid disease.

Energized living with thyroid disease IS possible.

If you have questions about whether you have thyroid disease, or have been diagnosed but are “still in the dark”.

I want to help.

Here is a guideline of some questions to ask your healthcare practitioner. When you know what to ask, you feel more in control of your overall health. With a list of symptoms, questions, and practices that have changed my life…I hope to help you on your quest to thyroid health and wellness.
