Obesity and Cancer are now being linked together. In Cancer Compass Newsletter, medical studies are showing as many as 13 different Cancer’s are associated with obesity. It seems like THAT alone would scare people into mindful eating so that they could prevent Cancer. What we should make our minds first thought is not to lose weight to look better, or “get skinny”. We need to adapt the thought of Lose weight – Prevent Cancer.
Unfortunately, between “tomorrow” and it “won’t ever happen to me”, most Americans seem to be in denial. All you have to do is look around, or maybe…in the mirror. From Menopause, to Thyroid issues, Diabetes and Aging. everyone has a “reason” that they are overweight.
Since your doctor will most likely NOT ask you about your eating habits, but might mention that you should exercise, maybe I can offer some tough love.
On your path to adding numbers on the scale and eating packaged foods, missing sleep and being “too tired” to exercise, ..I urge you to read this article >>Cancer linked to Obesity.
I know that life, what to eat and dieting is overwhelming. I also know that there is so much conflicting info out there, that even makes it harder to know what to do. However, that should not make you paralyzed so that you do nothing.
Make simple daily changes. Even the smallest changes can lead up to a big payoff. Here are some doable tips, so that your new mindset is not only to drop pounds. But, to lose weight, prevent cancer, and live a long and strong life free from disease.
- Add more fiber. Fiber is usually a missing link to weight loss, when I do a “consult” with my clients in the gym I own with my husband. Most people are very short on their fiber intake.
Green vegetables like artichokes, kale, spinach and asparagus are great sources of fiber, in addition to ground flax and chia seeds, avocados and oats.
2. Drink more water.
Being tired is usually one of the signs that the body needs hydration. If you think you are hungry, drink a glass of water. Every cell can benefit from hydration from the inside out.
3. Stay away from processed foods.
The chemicals and additives in processed foods have been linked to Cancer, as well as obesity. Prepare foods at home a couple of times per week if “time” is the reason you are eating fast food, or buying pre-made meals. Simple ingredients, spices, and grilling and freezing meats, plus having materials for salads and veggies are easy and tasty ways to eat healthy.
4. Pick one thing per day to omit that should be on the “off limits list” or a once in a while treat.
One day you might omit chocolate, another day omit cheese. Next day omit energy drinks and the next day, omit wine. Whatever is the worse thing that you are consuming that contributes to your belly fat, needs to be slowly eliminated.
Most of all. Imagine these three things.
- You looking in the mirror, feeling great when you wake up daily because you are lean and energized, and got a great nights sleep.
- Having to be on medication for pain in your knees, or back…not being able to move freely due to excess weight. Medications causing side effects and worse symptoms that lead to obesity as in constipation and sleepless nights.
- Being diagnosed with Cancer.
The message in this email should resonate in your head and memory.
