5 Tips to Slow the Aging Process

Posted: September 30, 2026

Somewhere along the way, a lot of us started to feel like aging just happens to us. Our skin changes. Our energy dips. Our muscles seem to vanish while we’re not looking. Here’s what 30 years in the wellness world has taught me. You have more say in this than you think. This is why I’m giving you 5 tips to slow the aging process.

Think of your health like a bank account. Every healthy habit is a deposit. One deposit won’t change your life. But make them every single day, and they add up. Then they compound. Years from now, you’ll be glad you started saving.

Here are five daily deposits to make towards a happier, healthier, and more vibrant you!

1. Wear Sunscreen Every Day

Rain or shine. Summer or winter. Yes, even in Michigan.

UV rays sneak through clouds and car windows, and the damage adds up over the years. Make sunscreen the last step of your morning routine. Cover your face, neck, chest, and the backs of your hands. Choose a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher.

Benefits: Sunscreen protects your skin from sun damage, which is a major cause of wrinkles, dark spots, and rough texture. Research has found that people who used it daily showed less visible skin aging than those who used it only occasionally. It also lowers your risk of skin cancer.

2. Move Your Body for 30 Minutes Every Day

Notice I said move. Not “crush a workout.” Not “spend an hour at the gym.”

Walk the neighborhood. Take a class. Lift some weights. Garden. Play with the grandkids. If it gets you up and moving for 30 minutes, it counts. You can even split it into a movement patterns such as the ones in my 7 Minute Ageless Body Secret program, and take a brisk walk outdoors.

Benefits: Daily movement supports a healthy heart, strong bones, and better balance. It boosts your mood, sharpens your focus, and helps keep your joints from getting stiff. Add some strength work a couple of days a week and you’re also protecting your muscle.

3. Stay Social: Make Plans and Call Your Friends

This one gets overlooked, and it matters as much as anything on this list.

Text the friend you’ve been meaning to call. Put a coffee date on the calendar. Join a class or a walking group. Say yes to the invitation, even when the couch is calling your name.

Benefits: Strong social connections are linked to better mood, less loneliness, and better long-term health. Research has also tied staying socially connected to a lower risk of memory decline. Beyond the science, it just feels good.

4. Plan for a Good Night’s Sleep

Great sleep doesn’t just happen. You set it up.

Build a wind-down routine. About an hour before bed, dim the lights and put the phone away. Make a cup of calming, caffeine-free tea, like chamomile. Then read a good book or put on some soothing music. Do it at the same time each night so your body learns the signal.

Benefits: Quality sleep is when your body repairs itself. It supports your mood, memory, and hormone balance. Most adults do best with seven to nine hours. The quality of your sleep is what determines much of your health.

5. Eat Protein With Every Meal

Many women in midlife don’t get enough protein, and breakfast is usually the biggest gap. A muffin and a coffee won’t do the job.

Aim for a palm-sized serving at each meal. Eggs, Greek yogurt, chicken, fish, beans, tofu, cottage cheese, or a protein shake all work.

Benefits: Protein helps you maintain muscle as you age, especially when you pair it with movement.

It keeps you feeling full and satisfied, which helps steady your energy and tame cravings. Strong muscle means a stronger, more capable you.

Why Doing All Five Daily Matters

Here’s the beauty of it. These habits don’t work in isolation. They feed each other.

Sleep gives you the energy to move. Movement helps you sleep. Protein helps your muscles benefit from that movement. Friends make you want to get out the door and walk. And sunscreen protects your skin through all of it.

Every day you do them, you make a deposit.

Skip a day and nothing falls apart. But keep showing up, and the balance grows. Deposits made now help you slow the effects of aging, and they help you enjoy the years ahead with more energy, more strength, and more joy.

Aging well isn’t about chasing youth. It’s about building a life you love living, in every decade. You deserve that.

To the vibrant you!
