First of all, stop doing only cardio and counting calories. Women seem to obsess about what they are not allowed to have. What matters is what you are missing.
As we age, we lose muscle. How much muscle you have is directly related to how fast your metabolism works to burn off fat.
If you have been dieting, then your body is depleting muscle tissue. Now, if you have been adding in long walks and cardio only, you are losing more muscle.
When we are close to, or over 40, most women store fat around their midsection. This is the hardest fat to lose due to hormones, and poor dietary habits
The one thing you can do to prevent muscle loss is to eat enough protein. That doesn’t mean living on bland chicken breasts.
Eat a variety of protein throughout the day. Protein shakes that have GOOD and CLEAN ingredients are helpful. I love this one!
Make sure to take in at least 1 gram of protein for each pound of bodyweight daily.
The second most important factor on how to lose belly fat over 40, is to strength train. Use resistance bands, bodyweight exercises, dumbbells – and get stronger.
With each year, our muscles deteriorate if we are not doing something to challenge them. The more muscle you have on your frame, the less fat you will store.
