Nutrition for Women over 40

Women have different nutrition needs than men. As we age, we lose muscle fast. Since we don’t start out with as much muscle as men in the first place, Nutrition for women over 40, has to be specific.

Loss of muscle makes us look older, and get weaker. If we are not doing something to prevent muscle wasting, then we are on a path to frailty and fatigue.

Since most of us by the time we are 40, have dieted and counted calories…then we have even lost more than time.

More muscle means a faster resting metabolism with a body that looks leaner and younger.

If all you do is cardio? Then you will not only get weaker, you’ll actually slow your metabolic rate down.

This is why nutrition for women over 40, has to include enough protein.

When I consult with women, they are usually missing these keys to looking younger and keeping the weight off.

  1. They are usually missing a strength training program.
  2. Most of them are not eating enough protein. You should have about 1 gram of protein, per lean pound of bodyweight.
  3. A lot of them are only using cardio and counting calories. Both of those spare beautiful and dense, firm and toned muscle.
  4. Nearly all of them are extremely deficient in fiber. The necessary nutrients that shuttle out the toxins and keep the weight off.

A weak body with no muscle doesn’t look vital or energized. And actually, the thin women that are over 40 that only do cardio? They are going to be setting themselves up for a hip fracture or bad posture later.

Strength training is the fountain of youth for building muscles. But, a nutrient dense diet keeps your body from failing as you age.

If you want to feel, move and look 10-15 years younger, then start eating more protein with every meal and snack. That will prevent your body from burning through what you’ll need later on!

Eat healthy sources of protein as in lean beef, bison, poultry, eggs and fish.

Add in muscle building exercises that work your largest muscles in a pattern that prevents aging and keeps you looking young and vital!

We need leucine to maintain and build lean muscle tissue as we age. Most women have cut out so many foods that they simply ruin their metabolisms and need to rethink the future.
