Protein for Cancer Prevention

Posted: July 18, 2019

Cancer is all around us. From family members to friends, neighbors, and coworkers. There are articles everywhere about how to ward off and/or rid your body of Cancer. Protein for Cancer Prevention is something new to me.

I love science. I love to learn about how the body works, but I am more fascinated when it does not. Today I read an amazing article on whether or not protein for cancer prevention was truth, or myth.

If you are interested in reading a great interview by Ari Whitten (a research maniac!) as he asks questions of Dr. Chris Masterjohn, Ph.D. read it here!

However, if you want my takeaway on it…I’ll summarize what I believe to be the key findings below.

Protein is needed for all cell life. It keeps us alive. It grows stronger bodies and repairs tissue. It prevents muscle sparing and rebuilds our bodies after workouts, and injuries.

BEST SOURCE OF PROTEIN FROM GRASS-FED COWS

Cancer is mutated cells that grow. What I found most interesting about the above article is one of the questions I had wondered for years.

“Should you eat a low or high protein diet to ward off cancer?” And, “should you eat more protein if you have been diagnosed with cancer?”

The findings of the article is this:

Eat more protein for Cancer prevention. Eat less protein if you have been diagnosed with Cancer. (details of the studies can be found in the link above).

In the 20+ years that I have coached people to live long and strong lives, I have found that most of us are protein deficient. As we age, we start to lose muscle due to sedentary lives, and the simple fact that we don’t take in enough protein.

Now, all protein is not created equal.

Protein from grass-fed cows is a stellar source of protein. However, it is hard to find, it’s expensive and most of us can’t eat that much red meat.

I love smoothies every morning, and my husband drinks 2 daily! He’s a big guy with lots of muscle. We eat to ward off disease. We eat to preserve muscle. And, we own a gym that keeps us active.

That’s why our choice for protein powder from grass-fed cows, that is Non-GMO, and free of hormones is BioTrust Grass-Fed Low Carb Protein.

Now that I know that protein for cancer prevention is a key…I’ll be sure to get only the top sources of protein in my diet daily.

My dad, on the other hand, is on hormone therapy for cancer. He has lost muscle and strength, and we have been wondering if he should eat more protein or less.

Of course, you must decide what is right for you, and hopefully, you’ll read the article and interview above.

Education is key, but taking action is where change is made!

Sharing ways for us to live long and strong in bodies we love for life!
