Youthful bodies are sexy! Right? So why not trick your body into acting like it IS younger? Unfortunately, most of our practices as we age make us look and feel older. Something as simple as smiling and laughing increases “feel good” endorphins, but we are sometimes so wrapped up into our busy days that we forget to take a mental break and smile. When was the last time you had a good belly laugh? Why not rent a comedy tonight and end the day with fun instead of the depressing news on TV?
Below are 3 fantastic tips to get you started in your quest for a more youthful YOU!
1. Eat more healthy fats. – LADIES!!!! I still see you every day eating lowfat and zero fat foods. From fat free yogurt to low fat labeled snacks…these are basically chemical shitstorms inside of your body and will actually age you quicker since your body has to work overtime to digest them.
Go with 2% fat yogurts, coconut and avocado oils in addition to avocados and olive oil.
2. Eat more lean protein. When I do nutrition consults I am amazed at the food journals that my girls bring in. Between fad diets, low fat and low carb…I REALLY think most of you are on a low protein. If you are skimping on protein then you are doing your body a huge disservice. Your muscles are deteriorating by the week. The surest way to look aged is to be flabby AND skinny.
3. Drink tons more water. I know that most of you think that you drink enough. You don’t. Want the best way to tell? MEASURE. Fill up a water pitcher or two with the total of 8, 8 oz glasses of water. From the time you wake up, til the time you go to bed, it should be finished. You actually need more if you live in a warmer climate or are active. I am not an advocate of bottled water, but it is a good way in the beginning to see if you drink 8 of them a day.
Dehydration is more common than you think and it is said that most people over 50 are in a mild state of dehydration. If you want to perk up your skin and energy levels, drink more water.
