The word diet has to be the most said word out of every woman’s mouth over 40. What diet do you follow? What do you think about the Paleo diet plan? Have you heard of the new Keto diet? It goes on and on. So, what IS the best diet for women over 40?
Let’s ask some other questions first about you…before we come up with answers.
- How active are you?
- Do you have any hormone issues as in diabetes or thyroid disorder?
- Are you more than 20 pounds overweight?
- Have you dieted before, lost weight and gained it back?
These are the most pertinent questions that I ask women in my gym. Oh, and by the way…I have ONLY coached women for 25+ years.
Here is why those questions matter.
Active people burn calories differently than sedentary people due to the amount of muscle.
People with thyroid disorders and diabetes are ruled by hormones and NEED certain types of calories.
Bigger muscles burn more calories, so those with more muscle need more protein and calories for energy expenditure. Now, on the other hand, those with a higher bodyfat percentage, need to be conscious of less carbs and more fats so they don’t store calories.
Those that have yo-yo dieted for years, have metabolisms that are “broken” and need to know that the question is not about the best diet…but how to have a good relationship with food.
Most women over 40 are stuck with diet tips that are outdated, or even worse…ones that are so trendy…they won’t work for them.
