Digestion, Absorption, and Elimination – Your keys to wellness

Posted: October 11, 2018

We used to say “you are what you eat”. Now I think it should be rephrased as “you are what you absorb”. Digestion, Absorption, and Elimination – Your keys to wellness will be covered in this post.

Approximately 70-80% of our immune system function is based on the health of our gut. With chronic disease on the rise, bowel issues, and digestion issues are common topics in conversation.

We have good bacteria and bad bacteria. The beneficial gut bacteria keeps the bad gut bugs away so that our immune system can function properly.

However, with the toxins and pollutants we put in our bodies, our bodies are fighting constantly. We are overfed but undernourished.

It is up to us to be sure that our bodies are digesting properly by slowly chewing your foods, and eating a variety of fermented, organic and natural foods. Digestive enzymes are secreted by our saliva so you must eat slowly and mindfully.

If digestion causes you pain, bloating, or gas, perhaps you need a supplement form of digestive enzymes.. This would be a great addition to cleaning up your diet!

Proper absorption is achieved when your intestinal tract is free of parasites, candida and a host of other invaders that prevent our bodies from taking in nutrients. People can go for years thinking that their stomach issues are “normal” and just keep on swallowing pills.

If you lack energy, I guarantee that you’re lacking in one of these three topics.

If you have been suffering from stomach pain or bloating, get tested by an integrative medical practitioner or D.O. that practices natural methods. They can test your body to see if it is detoxifying the body of harmful bugs, or if you are carrying them around inside of you. If you are, there are several ways to change your diet and add in some supplements to eliminate this added stress on the body.

And at last…Elimination. This is the process that no-one likes to talk about. From constipation to diarrhea. You need a nutrient dense diet that has protein, fiber from plants and healthy fats in addition to water to make sure you eliminate often, and properly.

Never forget the importance of these!

Eat a nutrient dense diet, chew slowly, calm your life and keep your body and bowels moving!
