As we age, due to hormones, a more sedentary lifestyle, and years of cutting calories, we lose muscle. This combo of muscle loss and low calories is exactly what is responsible for your flabbier shape and weight gain.
In order to change your shape and boost your metabolism, you have to do two things.
Eat more calories from the right sources, and wake up those unused muscles.
Running, walking, biking and cardio machines deplete muscle tissue if that’s all you use. Then, if you add a low-calorie diet, with not enough protein…you have the recipe for more flab on your trouble spots.
You don’t have to lift heavy weights, but you do have to lift heavy enough to see a change.
If you have not moved for a while, or have issue that prevent you from moving freely, it’s even more imperative that you start a functional strength training program.
