POWER BREAKFASTS FOR ALL DAY ENERGY

Posted: September 27, 2012

GOOD MORNING!

I can’t believe how many people tell me that they don’t or can’t eat breakfast in the morning.  There is so much evidence that tells us over and over that the first meal of the day is the most important, that you absolutely have to believe it.  The first meal of the day can set your body up for an amazing day of energy, brain power, and a good mood. Better yet, the first meal of the day can prevent you from crashing into that mid-morning slump where you think you need more sleep, and are heading for the coffee machine and a doughnut. Look around, and ask the fit minded people that you know if they eat breakfast. I will bet you that 99% of them will say “of course!” They might even launch into why. Look around you again, and see what the people that don’t eat breakfast act, and look like. Tired……….bored……irritable…overweight, you know the look. Ok, so there might be a few in the break room eating bagels and cream cheese, or pastries with coffee (cream and sugar added) all giving the disclaimer that they are SO glad that someone brought this in since they didn’t have time to eat. Do not confuse this with energy and happiness……..check out these people in an hour or so. Tired…..bored…..irritable….overweight, get the picture? The worst thing is now, not only have they started their brains and bodies in a vicious circle of craving more of the same, they probably don’t get the connection that they are still hungry, and are thinking about the quick fix lunch. Yes, they are hungry, possibly extremely so. The issue is that they need real food. Food that sustains their energy levels. Food that keeps their blood sugar level, and their systems working at their best.

Enough lecturing on the why. I will give you a few of my most commonly eaten breakfasts. I even sneak in some of these to my scrutinizing 16 year old that claims that he isn’t hungry in the morning. Unless, of course I put something tantalizing like these options on his plate.

Give these a try. Some can be made the night before. (I love a pre-planned morning) Some are just plain healthy, and yummy, and need little bit of cutting up the night before.

IF YOU ONLY CHANGE ONE THING THIS WEEK, EAT BREAKFAST. Your brain will love you. Your energy levels will be sustained, and believe it or not, you might just start to lose an inch or two!

2T.  Ground Chia Seeds
1/4 Cup Blueberrries
1 Banana Sliced
1/4 Cup Chopped Walnuts
1 T. Cinnamon
1 T. Vanilla Flavoring

Top with plain yogurt, or a little drizzle of syrup if you have to!

Every one of these choices is a great way to start your day. Never skip the first meal of the day. Try to get in the habit of eating something off of one of these lists, and see how much better you feel. These are just a few choices in the world of clean eating for energy, and vitality. Hell, if you eat one of these every morning, you might even have the energy to go to the gym and bust out a great workout!!

Always looking for ways for us to achieve optimal health!!
